Perfectly matched layer for acoustic waveguide modeling — benchmark calculations and perturbation analysis

چکیده
The perfectly matched layer (PML) is a widely used technique for truncating unbounded domains in numerical simulations of wave propagation problems. In this paper, the PML technique is used with a standard one-way model to solve a benchmark problem for underwater acoustics modeling. Accurate solutions are obtained with a PML layer with a thickness of only a quarter of the wavelength. The effect of a PML is analyzed in a perturbation analysis for the Pekeris waveguide. keyword: Perfectly matched layer, acoustic waveguides, one-way wave equations.

Waveguide Simulation Using the High-order Symplectic Finite-difference Time-domain Scheme
Abstract—The high-order symplectic finite-difference time-domain scheme is applied to modeling and simulation of waveguide structures. First, the perfect electric conductor boundary is treated by the image theory. Second, to excite all possible modes, an efficient source excitation method is proposed. Third, the modified perfectly matched layer is extended to its high-order form for absorbing t...
متن کاملAbsorbing boundary conditions for the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations with the spectral difference method
Two absorbing boundary conditions, the absorbing sponge zone and the perfectly matched layer, are developed and implemented for the spectral difference method discretizing the Euler and Navier–Stokes equations on unstructured grids. The performance of both boundary conditions is evaluated and compared with the characteristic boundary condition for a variety of benchmark problems including vorte...
متن کاملWaveguide Truncation Using UPML in the Finite-Element Time-Domain Method
An important part of numerical waveguide modeling is the termination of the waveguide using artificial boundaries. In this paper we develop a perfectly matched layer (PML) for waveguides in the finite-element time-domain method (FETD). The PML is discretized by prism elements aligned with the direction of propagation of the waveguide. Assuming that the waveguide is discretized by tetrahedra suc...
متن کاملOn the Analysis and Construction of Perfectly Matched Layers for the Linearized Euler Equations
We present a detailed analysis of a recently proposed perfectly matched layer (PML) method for the absorption of acoustic waves. The split set of equations is shown to be only weakly well-posed, and ill-posed under small low order perturbations. This analysis provides the explanation for the stability problems associated with the spilt eld formulation and illustrates why applying a lter has a s...
